Accidents and illnesses do occur at different points in our lives. Regaining your highest level of health is dependent on good nutrition, supplements, time, and attitude. As with any injury, every individual recovers at a different pace.
The first week is particularly important for the overall healing. The site of injury will be fragile and tender and any aggravation will simply set you back. Aggravation to an injury can occur from improper positioning, or poor use of recommended medical equipment (slings, crutches, boots…). In addition, injuries can be aggravated by simple daily activities such as doing dishes, taking trash out, moving stuff around the house.
We all have this urge to pressure ourselves to get back to do what we love or to do what we “have” to do. STOP! because if you do not take time to get better, you will have to take time to be sick. Imagine yourself not being able to drive, wash your hair, cook a meal, or take the trash out. We all need reminders once in a while.
Here are some things that can help speed up the recovery from a physical injury:
Rest, give yourself a break, allow the body to rest and remember that everything will be in the same place with or without you.
Eat healthy food, you do not need to change your diet or do anything drastic. Adding more vegetables and fruits (super foods) to your diet will aid the body in the healing process. Avoid sugars, alcohol, fats, and fast food as they can cause inflammation and are hard to digest.
Take vitamins, Yes! vitamin C and vitamin D are excellent to help the body reduce inflammation and improve the immune system.
Finally, stay positive and surround yourself with people that encourage you to get better so you can get back to do what you love the most.
Recommendations also apply to losing family members, friends, pets, plants…
